How Leopard got its spots.

Staged editorial photography based on a kids story by Rudyard Kipling:

A long, long time ago, Leopard was the plain, solid brown-yellow color of the desert. He was so plain he was almost invisible against the brown-yellow desert. When he headed out to hunt, Giraffe and Zebra and the other animals didn’t know which way to jump. To escape Leopard’s appetite, Giraffe and Zebra headed into the great shadowy forest. When Leopard tried to follow them, he stood out like a bright-yellow sunflower against a dark fence. He could not hunt at all. Giraffe and Zebra saw yellow Leopard right away, and ran off deeper into the forest. Leopard had to do something. He asked his human friend to help him. So the Man carefully dipped his five fingertips in black ink and painted spots all over Leopard’s fur. Now Leopard could blend into the shadows, and once again he became a great and powerful hunter!

Berlin decay. Experimental film for DMY.

Annnd another project done and turned in! This time for experimental film class. My objective for my film was to do something other than the usual brushed-up image that Berlin conveys. I’m trying to show the dark side, the broken-down and the decaying place I call home. Below, you can view the single-screen version.

Specifications: Create an experimental film based on Walter Ruttmann’s “Berlin - Die Sinfonie der Großstadt” (engl. Berlin - Symphony of metropolis”) from 1927. Final movie shall be a three-channel projection without sound (as it might be exhibited at the DMY Berlin), a single-screen version including sound is optional (but I wanted it to be single-screen mainly, so I did it). Original score and sound by Moritz Uebele!

So here’s the video:

How I shot a dead rabbit.

I turned in the first assignment for my “artdirection in photography / staged photography class”. My idea was to create a still life that has something of an akward twist to it, something uneasy. So I choose to work with a dead rabbit with those crazy amber eyes that stick out like it wants to pierce you. It had this really nice shade of rusty browns and whites, so I took that as my color scheme, staying in the reds and amber tones, with some greens to throw off / even out. In addition to that we were supposed to pay special attention to patterns, so i threw in some more fur in the background (reindeer) that i got from a good good friend but broke it up (since it was too much) with this lovely flower-patterned piece of wallpaper. Anyway, check it out, I hope you like it (as much as my professor lol).

Specifications: Shoot an indoor still life with only natural light. The image must contain a mirror and has to be shot on a table top. It can not contain any living things (humans / animals). Since my rabbit is dead, I’m okay though.
